Tom Hanks et le réalisateur Paul Greengrass (franchise Bourne, United 93, Captain Phillips) ont fait équipe pour un western ! Intitulé News of the World, l’histoire est basée sur le roman de Paulette Jiles de 2016 et se déroule en 1870 dans une région en proie à un conflit sans fin. Hanks y incarne le capitaine Jefferson Kidd.
J’adore le fait que Hanks ait fait un western, et il semble qu’il raconte une histoire du vieil Ouest merveilleuse et unique. Il suit le Capitaine Jefferson Kidd alors qu’il se trouve dans un voyage pour escorter une jeune fille vers les membres survivants de sa famille. J’ai adoré cette nouvelle bande-annonce, et j’ai hâte de voir ce film !

Cinq ans après la fin de la guerre civile, le capitaine Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Hanks), veuf et vétéran de trois guerres, se déplace maintenant de ville en ville en tant que conteur d’histoires non fictionnelles, partageant les nouvelles des présidents et des reines, les glorieuses querelles, les catastrophes dévastatrices et les aventures captivantes des confins du globe.
Dans les plaines du Texas, il croise Johanna (Helena Zengel), une fillette de dix ans recueillie par le peuple Kiowa six ans plus tôt et élevée comme l’une des leurs. Johanna, hostile à un monde qu’elle n’a jamais connu, est rendue à son oncle et sa tante biologiques contre son gré.
L’enfant accepte de mettre au monde l’enfant là où la loi dit qu’elle doit être. Alors qu’ils parcourent des centaines de kilomètres dans cette nature sauvage et impitoyable, les deux jeunes gens vont devoir faire face à d’énormes défis, à la fois humains et naturels, dans leur recherche d’un endroit que l’un ou l’autre peut considérer comme son chez-soi.
